               Blazie Engineering
               1995 Update Features
What follows is a description of the new features we have
added to the Braille 'n Speak 640, Type 'n Speak and Braille
Lite. Type 'n Speak commands are in parenthesis.

          Pull-Down Menus

Now when you enter a chord command which requires more
information, you can navigate through the list of commands with
dot 1 chord (up arrow) and dot 4 chord (down arrow.) Commands
include o chord, p chord, s chord, d chord, t chord, ing chord
(numlock), and the spell checker. c chord (shift up arrow) reads
the current line. Dots 1-2-3 chord (home) moves to the top of the
list, dots 4-5-6 chord (end) moves to the bottom of the list.

          Read ASCII Value

When you press dots 3-6 chord (shift end) a third time, you
will hear the ASCII numeric value of the current character: for
example, 13 for carriage return. Once you are in this mode, you
can move character by character and hear the numeric value of the
          characters you are moving across.

          Flip to Previous File

Have you ever been working in a file and wish you could open
the file you were last in. Now you can. o-chord (f9) followed by
the letter l (for last file) opens the file you were just in. You
could also use dots 1-2-5-6 chord or alt-backslash on a
          Type 'n Speak.

          New Metric Functions

The scientific calculator now includes new functions for
          metric conversions. The functions are:

          kilometers: km
          miles: mi
          pounds: lb
          kilograms: kg
          ounces: oz
          grams: go
          liters: li
          gallons: gal
          inches: in
          centimeters: cm
As an example, suppose you wanted to find out how many
centimeters were in a foot or 12 inches. You would write
cm(12( or cm followed by the number 12 in parenthesis.

You can also find a complete list of all of the commands
supported by the scientific calculator in the help file under the
          heading "scientific calculator."

          Which Page Am I On?

When using dots 1-4-6 chord (shift f9) you will now hear the
prompt "enter p b or a." Entering p or b will give you the print
or Braille page location just like before. However, if you enter
a you will get the "absolute" page count of the file you are in.
The absolute page refers to what page you are in as counted by
the unit. In other words, if you have a 50-page file which is
full, going to the end of the file and pressing dots 1-4-6 chord
followed by the letter a will give you the message "page 50."
This is not the print or Braille page number.

          Delete Block

This command allows you to delete a block of text from the
cursor to the text which you specify. For example, suppose you
wanted to delete a group of text from the cursor until the words
"chapter 2." Enter d-chord (delete) followed by b (for block.)
Now enter the string "chapter 2." followed by e-chord or enter.
Now all of the text from the cursor to the words "chapter 2" will
be deleted. Be careful when using this command. It's important to
be aware of the existing text in your file. Otherwise, you may
delete too little (or too much) text.

          Braille Lite Change

To print all of the text out the parallel port, you should
          now use t-chord t-chord instead of t-chord a-chord. t-chord t
will now print all text out the serial port and is identical to
          t-chord a.

          Keyboard Tracking for Braille Lite

Braille Lite has a new keyboard tracking option. You can
find this option by writing k chord from the status menu. If this
feature is on, what you type is immediately on the Braille
display for you to read. If this feature is turned off, what you
type will still be appended to the end of the file, but the
          display will not move.

          Serial Tracking for Braille Lite

Serial tracking allows you to immediately see information
which is coming in the serial port; information from a modem, for
example. Find this option by entering t-chord from the status
menu. If this feature is on, the display will immediately show
you information which comes in the serial port. If this feature
is turned off, information from the serial port will still be
appended to the file, but the display will not show it to you
until you actually move to the end of your file.

          Reverse Advance for Braille Lite

In the status menu there is a feature called "reverse

advance." If this feature is turned on, then the function of the
advance bar is reversed in that pressing the left side of the
advance bar moves the display forward, and pressing the right
side of the bar moves you backward. Turning this feature off will
make the advance bar work normally.

          Unprotect the Open File

p-chord (altogether p) u now unprotects the file which is
currently opened. This eliminates the need for entering the file
          menu and unprotecting it.
We'd like to thank you for purchasing this update. If you
have any questions or suggestions for us, we'd love to hear from
          you.
